The School District of Slinger strives to make sure our students are performing to their highest level possible. That includes students’ emotional wellness along with academic achievement. Just like we do periodic assessments on students’ academics, this year our district is implementing a Wellness Screening.
The Slinger School District has partnered with the Kettle Moraine Counseling to screen every student in our middle and high school. In order for students to participate, a signed permission form must be on file. The Wellness Screener our district chose is an evidenced based public domain screening tool called the Pediatric Symptom Checklist-Youth Self-Report (PSC-Y), which is also endorsed by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Early detection of and intervention in emotional wellness concerns, as well as getting connected with mental health services, can save lives.
Parents provide consent for the screening. Students complete a 10 minute computerized questionnaire exploring symptoms of depression and anxiety, attentional problems, and disruptive behavior. Parents will be notified of their child’s results, via a letter, sometime in late January. However, if the results of the Wellness Screener determines your child is in need of urgent emotional intervention, you will be notified as soon as the results are known to us.
The screening will take place during the week of December 9 – 13. Parents will be emailed the consent form. Please sign and return to your child’s school.
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s principal or school counselor. You may also contact Julianne Morrison, Clinic Director at julianne@kettlemorainecounseling.com or 262-334-3430 ext 3.
